And we're off!

Today's the day! I take off from O'Hare this evening. I've checked in online - I have window seats on both flights.
I probably won't blog again today, as I need to pack. And it may take me a few days to figure out internet, etc. in Cairo. So adieu! Enjoy! I'll talk with you in a couple of days.

Visa

I have the visa. 'Tis a thing of beauty. I biked to the Metra station from my friends' house (a little under three miles), trained into downtown, walked the less than two miles to the Consulate, and pretty much just grabbed it. I should be all set to go!
We're getting very close...56 hours and I'll be on a plane.

First Leg Complete!

The first part of my journey was only as far as Chicago. I fly out to Cairo this Sunday, but I needed to apply for my visa at the Egyptian Consulate. Yesterday I trained into Chicago from Lansing and dropped off my application. I am staying with family friends near Chicago; they will take me to the airport on Sunday. Friday I need to go back downtown to pick up my passport with visa.
This week I am reviewing Arabic and finishing up a few last-minute chores. We're getting very close, folks!

New End Date

We were originally slated to end classes July 27. My flight leaves July 28. The American University in Cairo decided to move the end of classes up to July 22, though. So I now have several days in Egypt. I think I'll head to Luxor - but if anyone has any suggestions on places I should visit, let me know!

Welcome!

I have set up this blog to allow my friends and family to track me while I'm in Egypt. I will have internet in the dormitory and plan to post at least once a day. My program starts June 7. I fly in to Cairo June 2. So this blog will be fairly inactive for another month yet - but I wanted to give time for the URL to be publicized!
So check back in another month to see how my life in Cairo is going - look forward to chatting with you then!
